The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping Xavier Worthy provides better results than the last time they acquiesced to drafting a player Patrick Mahomes really wanted.

Per ESPN’s Jordan Reid, Worthy was the player Mahomes “wanted most” in the 2024 NFL draft.

Kansas City made its superstar quarterback very happy by trading up four spots to get Worthy at No. 28 overall in the first round.

During the 2020 draft, it was revealed that Mahomes told the Chiefs he wanted them to select Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round.

Even though Edwards-Helaire had some strong moments with the Chiefs, he was ultimately not the best pick when you consider Tee Higgins, Michael Pittman Jr., Xavier McKinney, Jonathan Taylor and Antoine Winfield Jr. were among the players selected in the next 13 picks after he came off the board.

Worthy caused a stir at the NFL scouting combine when he clocked the fastest time in the 40-yard dash with an official time of 4.21 seconds.

The Texas alum was a two-time All-Big 12 first-team selection in three college seasons. He recorded a career-high 75 receptions and 1,014 yards in 14 games for the Longhorns in 2023.

Even though Worthy’s speed generated a lot of headlines, there are concerns about how his game will translate to the NFL because of his body. His weight of 165 pounds ranks in the first percentile of all receivers, while ranking in the 26th percentile in wingspan and 27th percentile in height and arm length.

Worthy’s athleticism is elite, ranking in the 92nd percentile or better in 10-yard split, 40-yard dash, vertical jump and broad jump. If he’s able to use that speed and athleticism to get off the line of scrimmage easily, it’s not hard to envision him being Mahomes’ favorite target very soon.
